His breakthrough came in the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), where his exceptional performance as a mystery spinner garnered attention. This success paved the way for his List A debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he emerged as the team’s leading wicket-taker with 22 dismissals in nine matches. His consistent performances earned him a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and in December 2018, Kings XI Punjab acquired him for ₹8.4 crores.
Chakravarthy’s initial IPL stint was challenging; his debut over conceded 25 runs, the highest by a bowler on debut in IPL history. Despite this setback, he remained determined, and his perseverance paid off when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed him for the 2020 season. During that season, he showcased his prowess by securing a five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals, finishing as KKR’s highest wicket-taker.
His IPL performances opened the doors to international cricket. However, named in India’s T20I squad for the Australia series in 2020, an injury delayed his debut. He eventually made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in July 2021, marking the beginning of his international career.
Chakravarthy faced a period of limited opportunities and form fluctuations but made a remarkable comeback in October 2024 during a T20I against Bangladesh, claiming 3/31.
